International Property for Sale and where best to find it
Regardless of reasons for buying property overseas there is always the challenge of knowing where best to go searching for it. Today, the choice is extended by the availability of the internet to search for keyword phrases. In fact, it is so easy to key “International Property for Sale” into any of the major internet search engines such as Google and Yahoo and to be presented with an almost overwhelming choice of options.
There are other ways of looking for international property for sale of course. Many real estate agents offer properties for sale in their locality but also abroad, often anywhere in the world. There are a plethora of magazines offering property for sale although to buy all those magazines each month will probably cost you an annual holiday. Even local newspapers often carry advertisements for overseas property.
Property Exhibitions
Property exhibitions are a major source of information and if you are looking seriously to purchase an overseas property then it is worthwhile devoting time to visiting one or more exhibitions. Exhibitions tend either to be focused on one country, such a France or Spain, or to be exhibiting a wide range of property across the globe.
If you chose to visit an exhibition it is as well to prepare beforehand. You can waste much time wandering aimlessly up and down rows of stands until you reach information overload.
Prepare thoroughly
Prior preparation prevents this happening. Clearly you will have some thoughts on the location of a property you might purchase. Prepare yourself thoroughly by obtaining a list of exhibitors and the countries in which they offer property for sale. Highlight those exhibitors who sell in the country of interest to you.
You will also have in mind a list of criteria which must be met in any property you purchase. Translate those criteria into a list of questions for exhibitors to answer. Arm yourself with a notepad, pen and digital voice recorder and you are ready to go. Stamina is also a key requirement when visiting exhibitions but this will demand six months of training to adequately prepare you!
At the Exhibition
When you arrive at the exhibition pick up available information on the layout of stands and mark off a logical route to visit each stand of interest. Start your quest in a positive frame of mind and knowing that you will find your dream property sometime during the day. Otherwise, the day may become very dispiriting.
With your tools, start to follow your carefully-planned route, stopping at the stands you’ve marked. At each stand gather as much information as is available, you can always dispose of the rubbish later. You don’t have time to look at it all immediately so just take it with you. If there are no sales persons at the stand, gather brochures, business cards etc and make a note to come back later.
Assuming someone is there to talk to you, take them aside and get your questions answered and request any other information which is not readily available on the stand. If you want to use your digital recorder at this point you must ask the person answering whether they are comfortable with you recording the conversation. If not, don’t worry.
The real reason behind having the digital recorder is so that, when you leave the stand, you will have an opportunity to record your impressions of the opportunity available. After all, people buy from people they like. You need to both like and trust the people you are dealing with when making an international property purchase, so your initial thoughts are vital when you leave that stand. And unless you record them straight away, all the stands and exhibitors will become a blur after a while.
Visiting exhibitions is like preparing for a military exercise if you are to gain the maximum benefit from it. Prepare well and you will be rewarded.
In Conclusion
I wouldn’t suggest that you work your way from one real estate agent to another who also happen to be offering international property for sale. It can be very time consuming and quite unrewarding.
With internet searching you can gather a large quantity of data without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. You can download brochures and pamphlets and these can be very informative. Of course, what you may not be able to do, is talk to a person.
So, in conclusion, if you are interested in finding international property for sale, exhibitions are a great place to start.
